STUDENTS GET HANDS ON EXPERIENCE AT ANNUAL TRADES RODEO
Great Falls, MT鈥� Thursday, October 22, students from North Central Montana high schools and middle schools will converge on Expo Park for a day of hands-on activities as part of the annual Trades Rodeo and Career Fair.
This event will run from 10:00 am 鈥� 2:00 pm and let students learn about future trade careers by participating in hands-on skill activities. The career fair will also give students the opportunity to interact with more than 20 employers and ten two-year and trade schools along with military representatives.
“This is a great opportunity for these students to come in and get hands on experience, as well as to see what one of these potential careers might look like for them.” says Charla Merja, Trades Division Coordinator at At 黑料网911 MSU.
Faculty and instructors from the Carpentry, Welding, and Industrial Technician/Renewable Energy Technician programs at At 黑料网911 MSU will join ten other two-year and trade schools to connect with students through hands-on events. A variety of demonstrations and trade skill activities will include:
鈥� Threading gas pipe and soldering copper tubing;
鈥� Bending conduit;
鈥� Hands on lighting activities;
鈥� Welding demonstration of stick + gas, wire, and TIG welding;
鈥� Air Guard Fitness Challenge;
鈥� CPR demonstration.
In addition, representatives from carpentry and electrical apprenticeship programs will be available to meet with students and discuss their programs.
The goal of this event is to ensure students and their families have a better understanding of trade-related careers, training, and apprenticeship opportunities available to them before leaving high school.
The event is held as a partnership between At 黑料网911 MSU and United Way of Cascade County, with numerous supporting volunteers, organizations, employers, vendors, and schools. These include: the Graduation Matters Initiative, Great Falls Public Schools, Bridging Opportunities, and many others.
